I saw a post on Vesitiaire Collective that spurred this blog entry. The post was titled : ‘I am a recovering fast fashion addict’. Where do I start?’
FAST FASHION AND ITS MANY SIDES
Fast fashion and our consumption of it is a touchy subject. Not everyone can afford the more premium stuff and we all want to be on trend (which fast fashion offers at little cost), What do we do?
To begin with, trends come and go over time so you will find some style that may have been vintage just 2 years ago now back in style. An example is the shoulder pads. This was in style decades ago and are now back, hot and trendy
Shopping second hand items which tend to be older seasons doesn’t mean you will be out of trend and looking like anyone’s old aunty. Pick your items carefully to ensure you get the best picks.
MAKE SHOPPING FUN AGAIN. SHOP CONSIGNMENT
Shopping consignment is fun. There are tons of items, mostly unique and one piece only so there are so many things to go through unlike a usual fashion store where you can look in the store window and know exactly what to expect on the inside. In a consignment store, what you see is definitely NOT what you get…in a good way.
Eco consciousness is noble and all but if that doesn’t sway you, think about all the money you can save from shopping consignment. Tons and tons! Designer labels on offer at a fraction of the price. The downside? You have to be savvy to ensure you are getting the authentic piece and there are many ways to do that including getting 3rd party authentication on the items.
I’ll leave you with this – imagine your dream wardrobe, what it would look like, the kind of pieces it will have from clothing to accessories, bags and shoes. A consignment store will afford you that without breaking the bank.

Thank you for explaining that you can save lots of money by shopping consignment! My daughter has been talking about how she wants to save some more money, but she still needs some new clothes that aren’t worn out. It seems like shopping consignment might be exactly what she needs.
Yes! Consignment shopping is definitely the way to go and its not all all preloved, there are some gems in there that may be worth more in the long run! Good luck!
